چکیده

A new form of the equations of motion for a spacecraft with single gimbal control-moment gyros (CMG) is developed using a momentum approach. This set of four vector equations describing the rotational motion of the system is of order 2N + 7, where N is the number of CMGs. The control input is an N £ 1 column vector of torques applied to the gimbal axes. A modiŽ cation to a singularity robust Lyapunov control law is examined and compared to that control law. SpeciŽ cally, the attempt to avoid singular gimbal conŽ gurations is abandoned in favor of simply avoiding movement in the singular direction. The singular value decomposition is used to compute a pseudoinverse that prevents large gimbal rate commands near or at actual singularities.

An Experimental Comparison of CMG Steering Control Laws

Control moment gyros (CMGs) are spacecraft attitude control actuators which act as torque amplifiers. They are thus suitable for attitude hold and reorientation of large spacecraft or for slew maneuvering. They provide the necessary torques via gimballing a spinning flywheel. A major problem encountered with the use of CMGs in practice is the possibility of singularities for certain combination...

Singularity Analysis and Avoidance of Variable-Speed Control Moment Gyros – Part I : No Power Constraint Case

Single-gimbal control moment gyros (CMGs) have several advantages over other actuators for attitude control of spacecraft. For instance, they act as torque amplifiers and, thus, are suitable for slew maneuvers. However, their use as torque actuators is hindered by the presence of singularities, which, when encountered, do not allow a CMG cluster to generate torques about arbitrary directions. A...

Singularity Analysis and Avoidance of Variable-Speed Control Moment Gyros – Part II : Power Constraint Case

A Variable Speed Control Moment Gyro (VSCMG) is a relatively recent torque actuator device for spacecraft attitude control. As implied by its name, a VSCMG is a singlegimbal control moment gyro (CMG) with a flywheel having variable speed. Owing to this extra degree of freedom, a VSCMG can be used to achieve additional objectives, such as power tracking and/or singularity avoidance, as well as a...

Mode-Scheduling Steering Law of VSCMGs for Multi-Target Pointing and Agile Maneuver of a Spacecraft

This study proposes a method of selecting a set of gimbal angles in the final state and applies the method to the mode-scheduling steering law of variable-speed control moment gyros intended for multi-target pointing manoeuvres in the threeaxis attitude control of a spacecraft. The proposed method selects reference final gimbal angles, considering the condition numbers of the Jacobian matrix of...

Attitude Dynamics/Control of Dual-Body Spacecraft with Variable-Speed Control Moment Gyros

The dynamics equations of a spacecraft consisting of two bodies mutually rotating around a common gimbal axis are derived by the use of the Newton–Euler approach. One of the bodies contains a cluster of single-gimbal variable-speed control moment gyros. The equations include all of the inertia terms and are written in a general form, valid for any cluster configurations and any number of actuat...
